DPA (Danish Auteurs of Popular music) have an English name: Danish Songwriters Guild.
We are a nonprofit organization, democratically governed by our more than 1000 auteurs among Denmark's very best and most professional within all known popular genres of music. To become a member, you must demonstrate a certain income from public use of your music, songs or lyrics.
Our staff is working on a daily basis on servicing, assisting and counseling our members in all and any aspect of their professional life as creators of music. We represent their standpoints and best interests in all - and every forum, where decisions are made of any significance to our trade and our products.
DPA since 1918
DPA was established in 1918 as a union of lyric writers and composers within popular music and theater, making it one of the longest lasting guilds of its kind. Since then DPA have sought to improve and secure the author rights and Copyrights- based interest – and linked to that, naturally the economic interests of our members.
DPA are one of the founding fathers of our national Collecting Society founded in 1926, and as such represented in the board of directors of Koda.
Danish Songwriters Guild represent our member’s interests towards any part, who exploit -commercially or otherwise - our members' products and creations, i.e. DR Danish Radio and TV, commercial Radio and TV, music-publishers, and more, and we do so through a lot of different services offered to members of Koda.
We have educational outreach and a co-writing export program, which sends members of Koda to destinations like the US (e.g. Los Angeles, Nashville and New York) as well as inspirational stays in France, Germany and the UK to write with other songwriters for inspiration of new material. Specifically, the guild has annual trips for groups of members to Los Angeles, where they network with the music industry, as well as co-write with local songwriters.
